Advanced Microgrid
With PowerSecure’s advanced microgrids, both modular and redundant power ensure your facility remains powered all the time, withstanding outages or any other event of similar magnitude meeting the highest level of clean air regulation. Our advanced microgrids are optimized according to PowerSecure’s Gold Standard process, generating significant economic value and maximizing energy procurement and usage strategies around real-time market pricing. Moreover, our advanced microgrid energy solutions are proactively monitored and serviced by us for your peace of mind. Finally, our diesel engines are Tier 4 Final certified, allowing for operation at any time for any reason, emergency or not. For further operational flexibility, our natural gas engines are also certified to low emissions standards, translating to energy resources that are cleaner.

Welcome to our Microgrid
As a localized group of electricity generation sources, storage options and loads, a microgrid is typically connected to the centralized grid and can run synchronously with it, but can be islanded and operated autonomously as needed. This provides backup in cases of emergency while also cutting costs and allowing communities to be more energy independent. PowerSecure’s onsite microgrid features:
NexGear switchgear
NexGear Switchgear connects the AC output of the microgrid to the rest of the system.
Powerblock
Fully integrated power generation system which includes two 625kW EPA Tier 4 Final diesel engines, controllers and monitoring software in our 4-bank PowerBlock enclosure.
Fuel Cells
Bloom Energy Fuel Cell distributed power generation system which provides always-on, primary power. System includes 50kW, 480VAC power source fueled by natural gas.
Battery Energy Storage System
The Battery Energy Storage System is 852.32kWh, equaling 500kW, with 704-913 VDC and 0.5 C-battery rating.
Power Equipment Center (PEC)
The PEC encloses the Battery Energy Storage System and the DC Switchgears. The switchgear components interconnect energy storage, fuel cells and the photovoltaic (PV) system into a single output.
Inverters
The 250 kW Fuel Cell Inverters convert power from AC to DC. The Microgrid Output Inverters convert 1,000 kW from DC to AC, and vice versa, and regulate the power flow from and into the microgrid.
Photovoltaic Inverter
The 250 kW PV Inverter regulates the power flow from the rooftop solar system to the microgrid.
Load Bank Systems
The Load Bank Systems serve the power source, using its energy output to test, support or protect the power source in the event of an outage.
Utility Transformer
The connection point to the utility power source.
Solar
PowerSecure's 200kW PV system, with 47 strings of 12 PV modules, serves as a renewable fuel source for the microgrid.
Fuel Cell Load Bank
This load bank system serves the Fuel Cells in using its energy output to test, support or protect the power source in the event of an outage.
Fuel Cell Load Bank Emergency Switch
Microgrid Transformer
The Microgrid Transformer equals 1000kVA.
Basic Microgrid

PowerSecure’s team of experts can integrate facility-scale energy efficiency projects into your Advanced, Basic or Standby-Only system. We deliver fixed-price, end-to-end development, construction, and implementation for the lifecycle of your project. Since PowerSecure manages more of the stages, you won’t have to work with multiple service providers, saving time and money. We are a proven provider of multi-measure energy efficiency projects with over $900 million of engineered, installed, and commissioned projects.
ONSITE ENERGY OPTIMIZATION
PowerSecure’s Energy Efficiency Services (EES) provides a comprehensive service offering across the full range of energy efficiency and renewable energy projects to deliver cost and sustainability benefits. Our team provides a national delivery platform for design/build/construct services utilizing in-house staff for speed, efficiency, and accountability. We offer ESCOs more than 25 years of experience delivering design build services for ESPCs and UESCs, including Lighting, Mechanical/HVAC, Electrical, Water Conservation, Building Envelope, and Resiliency. Energy efficiency solutions offer our end customers energy savings to offset needed capital upgrades to their buildings’ outdated infrastructure. These energy saving solutions provide the funding mechanism needed to upgrade your buildings aging systems equipment. These same solutions are also recommended to be evaluated in order to optimize facility energy usage before installing a microgrid, so that the system can be right-sized.
